On The Road Again

Headed south this morning, with no small amount of sadness.   I stopped off at the Cabela’s store in Dundee, MI just to get some more of the amazing apple cider donuts….Pete’s Donuts has a mobile wagon set up right in front of the main entrance.  When I passed by in June, I bought one donut and didn’t bite into it until later……what a mistake!  It was warm, with sugar on it, and to die for!  It was too far to walk back for more.  So I’ve been looking forward to stopping back by there on the way south.  Well.  I’m so MAD at ol’ Pete, he wasn’t open!  There was a sign on the window that said they’d be back in an hour, and I didn’t want to wait that long.  Darn.  I’m feeling very unfulfilled.

Maybe not for long….my car kinda automatically led me to the Russell Stover candy outlet near Cabela’s.  I got a bunch of marshmallow Easter eggs for $.06 each, can’t beat that price!  I hoped they were stale; I love stale chewy marshmallows. But they’re not.  Don’t you just love Peeps after they’ve sat around for 6 mos. or so?  Mmmmm!

I drove for 7.5 hours today and I’m tired.  I am at Oakdale Campground in Quincy, OH, it’s quite a ways off I-75 but it’s a Passport America park so only $15 for the night.  My GPS “Brunhilda” took me all over through the farm country, with turns every couple of miles……I thought she’d had another of those mini-strokes, but she finally did bring me here.

I’ve done some research and I think I’m headed for some free dispersed campsites in Pisgah National Forest near Harmon Den, NC (just past the TN/NC line).  It’s a little too far to make it tomorrow so I’m going to stay at Cove Lake State Park just above Knoxville, and then it’ll be a quick drive the next day to Harmon Den.   If they’re nice and its not going to be too cold at night, I may stay for several days.  There probably is no wifi or phone signals there, so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me.
